Awnings
Our Colorbond awnings are made to measure at our premises in Innisfail, in the Cassowary Coast region of QLD.
All awnings are available in the full range of Colorbond colours and are designed to withstand the harsh local conditions. Innisfail Glass & Aluminium awnings come in three styles which can be customised to suit your requirements. Cyclone Hooded Awnings can be made with either panel or closed sides and can be mitred around corners.
Tornado fixed awnings have a curved profile for increased airflow. Both Cyclone and Tornado fixed awnings are sturdily built using Aeropop rivets for longevity.
Adjustable louvred awnings are made using metal pins for strength and durability. The gearbox is fully enclosed to protect the mechanism from damage by insects and dirt.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are awnings effective in reducing indoor heat?
Yes, awnings are an excellent way to reduce indoor heat, especially in areas with strong sunlight. By shading windows and external walls, they block direct sun exposure, which can significantly lower indoor temperatures. Awnings reduce the amount of heat that enters your home, helping you rely less on air conditioning. North- and west-facing windows benefit the most from shading. Some studies show awnings can reduce solar heat gain by up to 65–77% on hot days. This makes them a smart investment for improving comfort, lowering energy bills and protecting interiors from sun-related fading or damage.
Can I install awnings or screens without council approval?
In many cases, minor additions like awnings or privacy screens may not require council approval, especially if they are non-structural or below a certain size. However, rules vary between local councils, and approvals might be needed if the installation affects building lines, neighbours or heritage-listed properties. Freestanding or temporary screens are less likely to need approval, but fixed structures attached to buildings may fall under development guidelines. It’s always best to check with your local council before starting work. A professional installer or builder can also advise on whether permits or planning applications are necessary.
What’s the best material for long-lasting privacy screens?
Aluminium is one of the most durable materials for privacy screens, particularly in outdoor settings. It’s corrosion-resistant, low maintenance and can be powder-coated in various colours to match your home. Timber offers a warm, natural look but requires regular sealing to prevent weather damage. Steel screens are strong and long-lasting, though they may be prone to rust if not treated properly. Composite materials combine the look of timber with improved durability. Choose a material based on exposure to weather, required maintenance and visual preferences. Quality installation and finish will ensure your privacy screen performs well for years to come.
